http://easyweb.easynet.co.uk/~portwin/ASTRA/astra_info.htmlScotland's national spaceflight society, founded in 1953 as Scottish Branch of the British Interplanetary Society, became independent in 1963 and a Company Limited by Guaratee (registered charity) in 1986. Meets on first and third Mondays of the month, alternating with the Scottish Branch of the Mars Society (affiliated).
Also holds seminars and exhibitions, and runs book projects (5 published to date, 3 more in preparation), and runs technical projects (currently on Waveriders, Light-sails, and Asteroid Deflection). The Astronomy Section ran the Airdrie Public Observatory for North Lanarkshire District Council from 1978 to 2009 and recently ran North Lanarkshire Astronomy project for outreach to schools and community groups, funded by Heritage Lottery.
Space Group of the Royal Aeronautical Society
http://www.aerosociety.com/cmspage.asp?cmsitemid=SG_Space_HomeThe Space Group is the specialist group within The Royal Aeronautical Society (RAeS) charged with promoting the interests of the Society and its members in astronautics and its component scientific and engineering disciplines. These interests cover the design and manufacture of spacecraft and launch vehicles, plus the application of space techniques in such varied fields as communications, navigation, planetary exploration, astronomy and remote sensing. The Space Group holds a number of conferences and lectures each year on exciting topics such as Space Tourism, Spy Satellites and Robotic Exploration of other Planets.
Space Special Interest Group
http://www.aeroktn.co.uk/SpaceSIGThe Technology Strategy Board has created a Space Special Interest Group (SIG) as a pilot that will aim to connect the spectrum of space related activities across the Space Innovation and Growth Strategy (IGS) and existing Knowledge Transfer Networks (KTNs) as a way of fostering a Space community that spans Government, Industry and Academia. As a result of the recommendations in the Space IGS, the Space SIG will be coordinating the delivery of Technology Roadmaps to underpin a National Space Technology Strategy.
