Space Day - what it is like to live, eat and work in space

23. 01. 12

On Saturday 23rd January, Tom Lyons, ESERO Teacher-Fellow at the National STEM Centre, attended a Space Day, at Droitwich museum. The day was organised by the British Interplanetary Society (BIS-West Midlands Group). There were a number of enthusiasts and organisations from the space community, including Jerry Stone (Spaceflight UK), Jay Tate (The SpaceGuard Centre), the author Gurbir Singh and Dave Shayler (Astro-Information Services). There were also some original employees from the Summerfield (Rocket) Research Station (Droitwich side of Kidderminster), which formally opened in Jan 1952 and so Jan 2012 is the 60th Anniversary of the site.

Dave Shayler gave a talk on what it is like to live, eat and work is space. Take a look at the Human Space Exploration collection on the eLibrary to access videos and teaching resources on these topics, click here.

Jerry Stone spoke about the history of the ideas behind our place in the solar system and universe. You can learn more about this in our Solar System and the Planets collection, click here.

The day was enjoyed by both the exhibitors and the public alike. Check out www.esero.org.uk for more space news and upcoming events.
