Dr. Maggie Aderin-Pocock MBE joins the ESERO-UK team of Space Ambassadors

14. 09. 12

Maggie has been interested in space since she was a young child and overcame the challenge of dyslexia to achieve a degree in Physics and a PhD in Mechanical Engineering. She has worked in space science on a number of projects, including the development of the Mid Infrared Instrument for the James Webb Space Telescope (see information about our JWST teacher CPD course here).

Maggie has made numerous TV and media appearances. She presented the BBC documentaries “Do We Really Need the Moon”, and “In Orbit: How Satellites Rule Our World”. For Desert Island Discs, in March 2010, Maggie chose As by Stevie Wonder, for her record; her book choice was Star Maker, by Olaf Stapledon; and her luxury was a telescope.

She is very passionate about space, and visits schools to share her enthusiasm with students of all ages. Maggie currently holds an STFC Science in Society Fellowship and, in 2009, she was awarded a Member of the British Empire for her services to science and education.

Maggie joins our growing team of Space Ambassadors, who work with teachers and students to promote the use of space to enhance teaching and learning across the UK.
